The Financial Crisis Averted

Zoe and I had a rough financial start to the morning. Her bank had ‘frozen’ her account, so that she could not buy anything on credit or get money out of an ATM. My debit card also would not allow me to gain funds from an ATM. Zoe had tried mightily to get in touch with her bank (Wells Fargo – they suck), to no avail either by phone or email. Finally, she recalled the specific country code prefix needed, got in touch with a human, who ‘un-froze’ her account. My problem turned out to be much simpler – it was just that that particular bank did not dispense money to those who did not hold their accounts.

In a much happier mood, we went to the L’Accademia, which holds an incredible ‘Michelangelo’ room. It contains five of the original 12 ‘Slaves’ he was commissioned to…

This was a crumbling villa in the picturesque little town of Orta San Giulio, Italy.  These decaying villas are all over Italy.  This one was fun to inspect close up.  I love how the ferns have made themselves at home on the roof.  I can’t help but imagine what lives were lived in these walls.  And how could such a spectacular home right on Lake Orta stand abandoned?  Like anything, I guess, the funds to keep it up got to be too great.  I find it beautiful even in its decay.
